(Web Desk) – The suspect was identified as Qari Waqas, also known as Qadoos, reportedly a resident of Afghanistan’s Spin Ghar area. Other members of the suspected group failed to cross into Pakistan during the attempted infiltration.

Security sources said the arrested man was allegedly affiliated with a militant organisation and had been attempting to enter Pakistan to join the Khariji Kazim Group.

A search of the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of a submachine gun, four magazines and 88 rounds of ammunition. Authorities also recovered a notebook containing notes about different locations and information relating to bomb-making techniques.

The material recovered from the suspect is expected to form part of the investigation as security officials seek to establish his intended activities and possible links with other members of the group.

According to the sources, the suspect disclosed during initial interrogation that he had intended to join the Kazim Group after entering Pakistan. His statements are being examined as investigators seek to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and whether others were coordinating the attempted crossing.

Further interrogation of Waqas is under way, with authorities seeking information about his contacts, organisational links and possible associates operating on either side of the border.

The investigation is also expected to examine the purpose of the recovered notebook, including the locations mentioned in its contents and the nature of the technical information recorded there.

The arrest highlights continuing security concerns along Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, where authorities have repeatedly expressed concern about militant movement and cross-border attacks.

Upper Kurram is part of the former tribal belt in northwestern Pakistan, a region that has faced security challenges linked to armed groups and instability along the frontier. Its geographical position makes border surveillance and intelligence coordination particularly important for local security agencies.

Pakistan has frequently called for stronger action against militant groups operating from Afghan territory, arguing that cross-border movement poses a threat to its security. The Afghan authorities have previously rejected allegations that their territory is being used by groups to launch attacks against neighbouring countries.

The latest incident is likely to add to Islamabad’s concerns about preventing armed networks from moving across the frontier and establishing operational links inside Pakistan.

Security agencies have not provided details about the exact route allegedly used by the suspect or whether the group had attempted similar crossings previously. No information was immediately available about the identities or whereabouts of the other individuals who reportedly failed to enter the country.

Authorities are expected to continue examining the recovered weapon, ammunition and written material as part of the investigation. The findings could help establish whether the suspect was acting independently or as part of a wider network.

Officials have also not announced whether further arrests have been made in connection with the case.

The suspect remains under interrogation as investigators seek to gather additional information about the alleged infiltration attempt and any potential security threat linked to it.
