Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Ishaq Dar on Monday as part of his official engagement with Pakistan’s leadership.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, promote cultural cooperation and increase people-to-people exchanges between the neighbouring countries.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Liu conveyed greetings from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Ishaq Dar, who warmly reciprocated the message.
Dar also conveyed the Pakistani leadership’s best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to maintaining and further developing its close relationship with Beijing.
Commitment to all-weather strategic partnership
During the discussion, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China, describing bilateral engagement as an important component of the country’s foreign relations.
Both sides expressed their determination to maintain close coordination and build on the positive momentum achieved in their bilateral relationship.
The meeting reflected the importance both countries attach to maintaining regular high-level communication and strengthening cooperation through diplomatic and political engagement.
Pakistan and China have maintained longstanding relations based on mutual cooperation and regular exchanges between their political leaderships, institutions and communities.
The latest meeting provided another opportunity for both sides to review their relationship and discuss areas where greater interaction could be encouraged.
Cultural exchanges and people-to-people cooperation
Cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges featured prominently during the discussions.
Both countries recognise the importance of strengthening contacts between their citizens to complement government-level diplomatic engagement.
Such exchanges can provide opportunities for students, academics, cultural organisations, professionals and business communities to develop closer connections.
Greater interaction between educational institutions and cultural organisations can also help improve understanding of each country’s traditions, languages, history and social values.
The discussion on cultural cooperation highlights the importance of broadening Pakistan-China relations beyond official meetings and government-to-government arrangements.
People-to-people engagement can also create opportunities for younger generations to learn about each other’s societies and develop professional and educational connections.
For Pakistan, stronger cultural and educational exchanges could provide additional opportunities for students and professionals interested in China, while Chinese visitors and institutions could develop a deeper understanding of Pakistan.
Liu Haixing’s visit strengthens diplomatic engagement
Liu Haixing’s visit forms part of the continuing high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China.
His position as head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China gives his visit an important political and diplomatic dimension, particularly in relation to communication between the ruling political party in China and Pakistani political institutions.
Party-to-party engagement provides another channel through which both countries can maintain communication, exchange views and discuss issues of mutual interest.
The visit also reflects the importance of maintaining regular political contact alongside conventional diplomatic relations between the two governments.
Both sides seek to maintain positive momentum
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to maintaining close coordination and further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Dar’s message to President Xi Jinping and Liu’s greetings from Foreign Minister Wang Yi also reflected the continued communication between the leaderships of both countries.
Although no specific new agreement or financial commitment was announced during the meeting, the discussions reaffirmed the willingness of both sides to continue developing their strategic relationship.
The focus on cultural links and public engagement also demonstrated an interest in expanding cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic channels.
Pakistan-China relations remain a foreign policy priority
Pakistan and China have a longstanding relationship encompassing diplomatic engagement, economic cooperation, trade, infrastructure development and regional connectivity.
Both countries have consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties and strengthening coordination on matters of mutual interest.
The latest meeting in Islamabad adds to these ongoing efforts, with both sides expressing confidence in the future of their strategic partnership.
As high-level exchanges continue, cultural engagement and people-to-people cooperation are expected to remain important areas for strengthening relations between the two countries.
