ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices in Pakistan, with the revised rates taking effect from October 21, 2026, under the daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol prices have risen by 88 paisa per litre, from Rs381.14 to Rs382.02. High-speed diesel has increased by 53 paisa per litre, from Rs389.27 to Rs389.80.
The latest adjustment reverses part of the relief provided through earlier price reductions and is expected to affect motorists, transport operators and businesses that rely on petroleum products.
The government has introduced daily fuel price reviews to bring domestic rates into closer alignment with fluctuations in international oil markets. Under the mechanism, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) calculates prices using average international market rates recorded over the preceding seven days.
Changes in fuel prices can influence transportation costs, freight charges and the prices of goods, particularly items transported over long distances. Diesel is widely used in heavy transport and agricultural machinery, making its price an important factor for businesses and farmers.
Petrol price changes, meanwhile, directly affect private motorists and other users of petrol-powered vehicles. The impact of the latest increase on consumers will depend on fuel consumption, transport requirements and any subsequent changes in market prices.
The daily review system is intended to allow more frequent adjustments in response to international market movements. Future domestic fuel rates will therefore depend on global petroleum prices and the applicable pricing calculations.
