HYDERABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has reiterated that his party will continue its movement for public rights as the JI train march reached Hyderabad Railway Station on Sunday.
The JI leader was received at the station by party workers and supporters, who presented him with flowers and expressed solidarity with the ongoing campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Hafiz Naeem said the JI had initiated the movement to highlight issues confronting ordinary citizens. He expressed hope that caravans travelling from different parts of the country would eventually converge towards Islamabad.
He maintained that the campaign was not centred on any individual or party interest, but was intended to raise issues affecting the wider population.
Discussing fuel prices, Hafiz Naeem claimed that about Rs135 per litre of the petrol price represented the petroleum levy. He said petrol could potentially fall below Rs200 per litre if international oil prices declined, arguing that the levy was distinct from movements in global petroleum markets.
The JI emir also criticised what he described as extensive privileges enjoyed by the ruling elite. He linked the country’s economic difficulties partly to government expenditure and privileges, while calling for a more equitable distribution of the tax burden.

Referring to negotiations with the government, Hafiz Naeem said official representatives had held talks with the JI but, in his view, had yet to present proposals capable of meeting the party’s demands.
He said the JI’s sit-in in Hyderabad had entered its 29th day and would continue.
According to Hafiz Naeem, participants from different regions of Pakistan were also travelling towards Islamabad as part of the campaign. He said the JI caravan would proceed to Rohri on Sunday.
The JI chief thanked women and other participants for their involvement, saying the party would continue to raise issues related to public rights and economic hardships.
