FLORIDA (Web Desk) – Nathan Thomas of the United States has earned global recognition after becoming the world’s youngest college professor at the age of 18 years and 346 days, achieving a milestone that highlights an extraordinary academic journey and setting a new Guinness World Records title.

According to Guinness World Records, Thomas began teaching at Miami Dade College in Florida in August 2023, becoming the youngest person in history to hold a college professorship at that age.

His achievement surpassed a record that had remained unbeaten for more than three centuries, placing him among the world’s most remarkable young academics.

Thomas’s educational journey began unusually early due to his exceptional intellectual abilities.

He enrolled at Miami Dade College when he was just 10 years old, years before most children complete elementary school.

His academic progress continued at an exceptional pace as he consistently advanced through higher education while many of his peers were still attending school.

By the age of 14, Thomas had enrolled at Florida International University, where he continued his studies in engineering and related disciplines.

At only 18 years of age, he completed a master’s degree in electrical engineering, demonstrating remarkable academic performance across multiple levels of higher education.

Soon afterward, Miami Dade College appointed him as a professor, allowing him to begin teaching college-level courses before reaching his nineteenth birthday.

Guinness World Records officially recognized the achievement, confirming that Thomas became the world’s youngest college professor at 18 years and 346 days.

The record had previously been held by renowned Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin, who became a professor at the age of 19 more than 300 years ago.

Thomas also surpassed the record held by American academic Alia Sabur, who became the world’s youngest female professor in 2008 at the age of 18 years and 362 days.

Thomas achieved the distinction 16 days earlier than Sabur, making him the youngest professor ever recognized by Guinness World Records.

Now 21 years old, Thomas continues to teach online courses while pursuing further education.

He is currently studying for a PhD at the University of Miami School of Law, where he has shifted his academic focus toward intellectual property law.

Despite his engineering background, Thomas has expressed a strong interest in combining technology with legal studies.

He has said that intellectual property law offers opportunities to protect innovation while supporting scientific and technological advancement.

Education experts describe Thomas’s achievements as an example of how gifted students can thrive when educational institutions provide flexible pathways for accelerated learning.

His journey also reflects the growing willingness of universities to recognize exceptional talent regardless of age.

Thomas has credited his family, teachers and academic mentors for supporting his educational development from an early age.

He has encouraged young students to remain curious, work consistently and pursue knowledge with dedication rather than focusing solely on records or recognition.

His accomplishment has attracted widespread attention across academic circles and social media, with many praising his determination and commitment to education.

Supporters say his success demonstrates that age should not be considered a barrier to academic excellence when talent, discipline and opportunity come together.

Guinness World Records noted that Thomas’s achievement establishes a new benchmark in higher education and places him among the youngest record holders in academic history.

As he continues his doctoral studies and teaching career, Thomas hopes to contribute to both education and the legal field, particularly in areas related to innovation and intellectual property rights.

His remarkable journey from a 10-year-old college student to the world’s youngest college professor serves as an inspiring example of academic excellence, lifelong learning and the possibilities that emerge when exceptional ability is supported through education.
