[:en]LAHORE (News Desk) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said he is ready to apology over the May 9 riots that took place last year after his arrest if the CCTV footages of the incidents are made public.
However, he added a little caveat that for any apology to be tendered, there should be plausible evidence that his party’s workers were involved in the violent riots that took place on that day.
He made this remark while speaking to reporters in a makeshift room of Adiala Jail.
“I will sack and myself seek punishment for the PTI members if they were found involved,” the former premier was quoted as saying.
He said the incident was used as a pretext by some powerful quarters to launch a massive crackdown against the PTI leaders and workers.
Almost 10,000 of the party workers have been put into prison unjustifiably by using the May 9 riots as a tool, he said.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Secretary General said, “Imran Khan wants the CCTV footage of May 9 to be made public so that the truth comes before the people’s eyes.”
Responding to the PTI’s founder remarks of conditional apology, the PML-N’s Senator Irfan Siddiqui said Imran Khan had never held peaceful protests in his political career.
