LAHORE: A delegation from the Punjab Climate Action Network (PCAN) met with Ms. Kanwal Liaquat, Punjab government, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, and presented a set of recommendations developed through a series of consultative discussions on climate change in Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kanwal Liaquat stated that addressing climate change is not solely the responsibility of the government. She emphasized that civil society, educational institutions, the private sector, and citizens must work together with the government to protect the environment and reduce the impacts of climate change. She also briefed the delegation on the Government of Punjab’s ongoing initiatives and future plans in the fields of environment and climate change.

During the meeting, the PCAN delegation highlighted the growing impact of climate change on children and stressed the need to prioritize climate education for younger generations. The delegation recommended establishing Green Clubs in schools, raising environmental awareness among students, and promoting environmentally responsible lifestyles from an early age to cultivate a “green mindset” among future generations.

The PCAN delegation included Ms. Durre Shahwar, General Secretary; Mr. Shahnawaz Khan, SPO Coordinator; Ms. Sehrish, Executive Member; Mr. Ahmer Shehzad; Ms. Shakeela; and other representatives. The delegation expressed hope that strengthened collaboration between the Government and civil society would contribute to effectively addressing the challenges of climate change in Punjab.
