KINGSTON (Web Desk) – Pakistan will chase 211 runs to win the opening Test against the West Indies after a disciplined bowling performance, led by Mohammad Abbas’ five-wicket haul, dismissed the hosts for 181 in their second innings on the fourth day.

The match remains evenly balanced as Pakistan prepare for a challenging run chase on a pitch that has increasingly assisted bowlers throughout the contest.

West Indies resumed their second innings with a narrow advantage but struggled to build substantial partnerships against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack. The home side lost wickets at regular intervals, allowing Pakistan to maintain control for most of the innings.

Opening batter Tagenarine Chanderpaul offered early resistance with a composed knock of 35 before falling to the Pakistan attack. Justin Greaves also attempted to stabilize the innings, contributing 20 runs, but failed to convert his start into a significant score.

Captain Roston Chase was unable to lead from the front, departing cheaply after scoring only eight runs as Pakistan tightened their grip on the match.

At the end of the third day’s play, West Indies were 126 for seven, holding an overall lead of 155 runs but with only three wickets remaining.

On the fourth morning, the lower order added valuable runs that pushed the target beyond the 200-run mark. Shamar Joseph played an aggressive innings of 38, providing crucial late resistance and frustrating Pakistan’s bowlers.

Jomel Warrican chipped in with 20 runs, while veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach added a useful 18 before the innings came to an end.

Other contributions came from Shai Hope, who made 10 runs, Brandon King with five, and Aamir Jangoo, who scored four.

Pakistan’s bowling unit produced a disciplined display throughout the innings, consistently maintaining pressure and limiting scoring opportunities.

Mohammad Abbas was the standout performer, producing an exceptional spell that earned him five wickets. His accurate line and length repeatedly troubled the West Indies batting lineup and prevented the hosts from building momentum.

Abbas received valuable support from the rest of Pakistan’s bowling attack, with the pace and spin departments working together effectively to wrap up the innings.

The bowlers took advantage of the conditions by maintaining disciplined lengths and forcing the batters into mistakes, allowing Pakistan to restrict West Indies to a modest total.

With a target of 211, Pakistan will need a composed batting performance to secure victory and take a valuable lead in the Test series.

Although the required total is not exceptionally high, batting is expected to become increasingly difficult as the pitch continues to deteriorate. Variable bounce and assistance for both seamers and spinners could make every run hard-earned.

Pakistan’s top-order batters will carry the responsibility of providing a solid foundation, while the middle order will be expected to guide the team through any challenging phases of the chase.

West Indies, meanwhile, will rely on their bowling attack to defend the target and capitalize on home conditions. Their bowlers have shown throughout the match that they can exploit the surface and create opportunities with the new ball.

Cricket analysts believe the final innings promises an exciting finish, with both teams still having realistic chances of winning the opening Test.

A successful chase would hand Pakistan an important victory and provide early momentum in the series, while West Indies will be aiming to produce one final disciplined bowling effort to secure a memorable home win.

With conditions favoring bowlers and pressure mounting on both sides, the concluding stages of the Test are expected to deliver an absorbing contest between bat and ball.
