LAHORE : Renowned journalist and podcast host Rehan Tariq was detained at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport after returning from the United Kingdom and was later handed over to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in connection with an ongoing investigation linked to one of his recent podcasts.
According to reports, Tariq arrived in Lahore after a private visit to London when officials stopped him during immigration clearance. He was initially held by personnel from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who reportedly questioned him for several hours before informing him that the NCCIA had sought his custody as part of an active inquiry.
Officials familiar with the matter said the investigation is connected to a recent podcast episode featuring religious scholar Jawad Naqvi. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed the precise allegations, the nature of the investigation, or the legal provisions under which the case has been registered.
Sources said the podcast was recorded before Tariq departed for the United Kingdom. Investigators are believed to be reviewing the contents of the discussion to determine whether any material violated Pakistan’s cybercrime or other applicable laws.
