LAHORE – The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged tax authorities to focus on collecting revenue efficiently without harassment, emphasizing that existing taxpayers should not be subjected to threatening messages or unnecessary pressure.

Speaking at a recent meeting with tax officials, LCCI representatives highlighted that mobile messages sent to old taxpayers, warning of penalties or investigations, are creating fear and uncertainty among the business community.
These messages, they said, are counterproductive and risk undermining voluntary compliance.
LCCI leader Tanveer stressed that the authorities should differentiate between those who are genuinely evading taxes and the responsible taxpayers who have been filing returns diligently for years. He underlined that tax collection should be about enforcement and fairness, not intimidation.
According to LCCI, over 5.9 million tax returns have been filed so far, reflecting the willingness of citizens to contribute to the national revenue. The chamber highlighted that most traders and industrialists are ready to cooperate with tax authorities if approached with transparency and professionalism. Tanveer said that the chamber stands ready to act as a bridge between traders, industrialists, and tax officials, promoting dialogue and ensuring smooth implementation of tax policies.
At the event, the chamber also commended the government and authorities for taking action against those deliberately avoiding tax obligations.
LCCI representatives stressed that while lawbreakers should be held accountable, honest taxpayers must not face undue harassment or threatening communications.
