LAHORE, October 20- Lahore Police have intensified operations against individuals and entities contributing to environmental pollution as part of their ongoing anti-smog campaign. During the latest phase of the drive, 83 people have been arrested and 77 cases registered.

According to a statement issued today by the spokesperson for Lahore Police, 68 individuals were arrested for emitting harmful smoke from factories, brick kilns and vehicles. Additionally, 9 individuals were detained for burning tyres, plastic and shopping bags, while 6 were taken into custody for setting fire to crop residues.
The arrests were carried out across various divisions, including 42 from Saddar Division, 14 from City Division, 13 from Cantt Division, 6 from Civil Lines, 5 from Model Town and 3 from Iqbal Town Division.
Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that full enforcement of anti-smog Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is being ensured. He noted that the police are extending full legal support to relevant departments in addressing violations of environmental laws.
The CCPO added that the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s surveillance cameras are also being used to identify and trace those responsible for environmental pollution. He directed police officials to accelerate operations against elements contributing to air pollution and stressed that action should be taken without discrimination.
“Clean air is the best gift we can give to our future generations,” Kamyana said, urging citizens to play their part in combating environmental pollution.
