LAHORE – Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has initiated proceedings on disqualification references filed against 26 suspended members of the provincial legislature.

In line with constitutional requirements and principles of transparency, the Speaker has decided to grant all 26 members the right to a personal hearing. The references, submitted under Articles 63(2) and 113 of the Constitution, pertain to the possible disqualification of the lawmakers.
Citing Article 10A, which guarantees the right to a fair trial and due process, the Speaker announced that personal hearings will be conducted on July 11 at 11:00 AM in the Speaker’s Chamber.
The Speaker is constitutionally obligated to decide the disqualification cases within 30 days of receiving the references.
“All members involved will be provided a full opportunity to defend themselves within the framework of the Constitution,” the Speaker’s office stated.
The development marks a significant step in upholding procedural justice amid the ongoing political tensions in the province.
