LAHORE – After raising the salaries of provincial ministers, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker, the Punjab government has now approved a new perk — full pay during official leave.

The Punjab Assembly has passed the Punjab Public Representatives Laws (Amendment) Bill 2025, which ensures that ministers and other senior assembly officials will now receive their entire monthly salary even when on leave. The bill was passed during a recent session and amends the Punjab Ministers (Salaries, Allowances, and Privileges) Act, 1975.
Previously, a deduction was made from their salaries during periods of leave. For instance, when the monthly salary of provincial ministers was Rs 100,000, they received only Rs 74,000 during a one-month leave. Now, after the recent salary hike to Rs 960,000, ministers will receive the full amount during leave, with no deductions** whatsoever.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, who earlier received Rs 37,000 as leave allowance against a salary of Rs 125,000, will now receive the full salary of Rs 950,000 during a month’s leave.
The Deputy Speaker, who used to get Rs 37,000 for leave when his monthly salary was Rs 120,000, will now receive Rs 775,000 , his complete current salary, even during leave.
According to government sources, these amendments were deemed necessary following the hike in official salaries, as the previous leave allowances were still based on outdated pay structures.
