LAHORE: Lahore police have launched a vigorous crackdown against kite flying ahead of Basant, arresting 1,729 people in citywide operations.

This was stated by the spokesperson for Lahore Police in a statement issued today. According to the spokesperson, a total of 1,645 cases have been registered this year under the Kite Flying Act. During the ongoing operations, police recovered more than 93,000 kites and over 2,100 reels from the possession of the suspects.

Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that kite flying remains completely banned except for the officially permitted period from Feb 6 to Feb 8. He stressed that strict enforcement of the Kite Flying Act was being ensured and warned that violators would face indiscriminate legal action.

The CCPO said that police were utilizing human intelligence as well as modern technology to effectively curb illegal kite flying and ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property. He urged parents to closely monitor the activities of their children, reiterating that compliance with the law is a fundamental responsibility of every citizen.
