OSLO (Agencies) — US envoy Steve Witkoff is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin following constructive talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Oslo, as Washington pushes Kyiv and Moscow toward a peace agreement.
The discussions focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, post-war economic recovery and broader European security arrangements. Ukrainian officials expressed hope for a trilateral meeting involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia to address key issues in ending the war.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine had resumed receiving early warnings of Russian missile attacks and discussed Patriot missile supplies and Starlink connectivity with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to pursue a settlement, arguing that Russia maintained a battlefield advantage. European leaders welcomed the Oslo discussions, describing them as a positive step toward renewed diplomatic engagement.
However, tensions remain over US military assistance, sanctions policy and continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which have caused widespread power outages.
