Punjab launches “Behtar Qadam” campaign to promote responsible family planning

LAHORE: December 2025: Under the Punjab Family Planning Program (PFPP), the Health and Population Departments of Punjab have launched “Behtar Qadam”, a new initiative promoting “Nayi Soch”, or a modern approach to family planning, across the province.

Implemented with partners Rayn and Riz Consulting, the outreach program supports families in making informed decisions rather than enforcing choices. It engages women and husbands, youth, extended families, community members, NGOs, and religious scholars across all 41 districts of Punjab.

Rooted in shared values of responsibility, compassion, and thoughtful decision-making, Behtar Qadam encourages youth, married couples, and families to plan for a healthier and more secure future. The program emphasizes maternal, newborn, and child health, promotes healthy spacing between children, and aims to strengthen households while contributing to social and economic stability.

“Behtar Qadam invites youth, families, religious leaders, and CSOs/NGOs to understand their role in building a prosperous and healthy society,” said Dr. Zahida Sarwar, Project Lead, Behtar Qadam FP Advocacy Program for PFPP. “No one is being told not to have children. The message is simple: have them responsibly, with healthy spacing, using the trusted services and facilities available.”

Since its launch in November, the program has conducted over 90 on-ground events across Punjab, connecting with more than 8,000 individuals, including students from 67+ educational institutions. Key districts for activities included Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Lodhran, Vehari, and others.

Looking ahead, Behtar Qadam plans more than 1,293 engagements by June 2027, including university sessions, Sehat Melas, community dialogues, family and couples’ sessions, youth forums, and meetings with religious leaders. These efforts aim to build awareness, address concerns, and encourage informed decisions around family planning and reproductive health.
