LAHORE: Secretary Price Control and Commodities Management Department Punjab Dr. Ehsan Bhutta has reaffirmed the Government of Punjab’s commitment to ensuring a steady supply of sugar at controlled prices across the province.
During a review meeting held in his office, Dr. Ehsan Bhutta emphasized that concrete measures have been taken in line with the Federal Government’s directives to maintain uninterrupted availability of sugar at the notified price of Rs. 165 per kilogram. As of now, a total of 350,333 metric tons of sugar have been lifted from sugar mills, with 6,405 metric tons allocated to Lahore. Notably, a significant portion of this quantity has been released into the market at the retail price of Rs. 173 per kilogram, effectively ensuring adequate supply and price stability. To maintain a close watch on the market, the department is conducting daily Zoom meetings with Deputy Commissioners and District Food Controllers to monitor demand, supply, and market trends. Furthermore, strict enforcement actions have been taken against those found violating the price control regulations, with fines amounting to Rs. 28.96 million, 389 FIRs registered, and 2,444 individuals arrested across Punjab. Specifically, in Lahore, enforcement actions have resulted in fines of Rs. 1.92 million, 77 FIRs registered, and 48 individuals arrested. These measures demonstrate the government’s unwavering commitment to regulating the sugar market and protecting consumer interests, ensuring that the essential commodity remains available and affordable for the people of Punjab.
