LAHORE, December 2 – Punjab DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir has outlined key points regarding traffic laws, underage driving, and the ongoing awareness campaign across the province. Addressing a press conference, he said the traffic police are ensuring uniform implementation of traffic rules across Punjab.
He said concerns raised by some citizens have been addressed and a comprehensive strategy has been put in place to improve road safety.
DIG Waqas Nazir strongly rejected social media claims regarding “millions of rupees in fines,” calling such posts fake and baseless. “Traffic police are in constant contact with the public to clear misunderstandings,” he added.
Speaking about underage driving, he said that in line with the Chief Minister’s directions, no criminal cases will be registered against minors. Instead, underage drivers and their parents will be counselled to help reduce accidents.
He confirmed that only a few parents were fined Rs 2,000, not as punishment but to encourage compliance with traffic laws. “Our top priority is the safety of citizens. We want everyone on the road to remain safe,” he said.
The DIG said a large-scale awareness campaign will be launched in cities across Punjab. He urged citizens to fully follow traffic rules, stressing that safer roads depend on public cooperation. He added that the driving licence system is being made easier, with timely issuance to be ensured.

“Every citizen’s cooperation forms the backbone of an efficient traffic system,” he said, reaffirming that the traffic police are always available for public service.
