LAHORE – Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan has taken strict disciplinary action against lawmakers involved in vandalism during the June 16, 2025 session. Ten members have been fined over Rs. 2 million collectively for climbing on desks and damaging microphones inside the Assembly hall.

Each of the 10 members has been ordered to pay Rs. 203,550 for damaging government property. The Speaker warned that if payment is not made within seven days, action will be taken under the Punjab Government Debt Recovery Ordinance 1962. The penalties were imposed based on video evidence and under Assembly Rules 223(R) and 235, which prohibit breaches of discipline and damage to state property.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan reaffirmed that maintaining order and upholding the rule of law in the Assembly is non-negotiable. “Breach of discipline and damage to the House’s property is a punishable offense, and we will not allow such actions to go unchecked,” he stated.

The fined members include Chaudhry Javed Kausar, Asad Abbas, Muhammad Tanveer Aslam, Syed Rafat Mahmood, Muhammad Ismail, Shahbaz Ahmed, Imtiaz Mahmood, Khalid Zubair Nassar, Rana Aurangzeb, and Muhammad Ahsan Ali.

In a separate action, the Speaker has suspended 26 members of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for 15 sittings for disrupting proceedings and tearing agenda copies during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s speech.

The suspended members include Fahad Mustafa, Tanveer Aslam, Syed Rafat Mahmood, Ansar Iqbal, Ali Asif, Shahid Javed, Muhammad Ismail, Khayal Ahmed, Shahbaz Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmed, Ijaz Shafi, Muhammad Naeem, Saima Kanwal, and Osama Asif, among others. These members have been barred from attending upcoming Assembly sessions.

The Speaker’s decisive move underscores a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behavior and aims to restore decorum in the legislative chamber.
