LAHORE, Jan 10: Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that the martyrs are the pride of the nation and that the police have always played a frontline role in the war against terrorism.

In a message issued on the 18th anniversary of the GPO Chowk–Lahore High Court suicide bombing, in which 16 Lahore police officers and officials embraced martyrdom, the CCPO said that the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs had enabled citizens to live in a peaceful environment today.
Paying rich tribute to the courage and bravery of the fallen personnel, Mr Kamyana also lauded the patience and resilience of their families. He said the welfare and well-being of the heirs of those who laid down their lives for the country would always remain a top priority at all levels.
On the occasion, police guards visited the graves of Shaheed Constable Naeem-Ur-Rehman and Shaheed Constable Mohammad Yaqoob in Lahore. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute, laid floral wreaths and offered Fateha. The sacrifices of police martyrs were remembered with deep reverence and respect. Family members of the martyrs were also present.
On Jan 10, 2008, a suicide attack near GPO Chowk and the Lahore High Court claimed the lives of 16 police officers and officials. The martyrs included ASIs Sheesh Ahmad and Ruftaj Ahmad, and constables Muhammad Saleem, Manzoor Ahmad, Muhammad Ahsan, Muhammad Arif, Shahbaz Ahmad, Riaz Ahmad, Naeem-Ur-Rehman, Asghar Ali, Muhammad Yaqoob, Muhammad Mansha, Zaheer Shoukat, Ijaz Ahmad, Shahid Ghafoor and Muhammad Asghar, who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
