More than 600 male and female cyclists participate in Punjab Sports Department’s mega cycle ride

LAHORE (January 25, 2026): Punjab Sports Department organized historic cycle ride on Sunday in which more than 600 male and female cyclists participated. The mega cycling event was Punjab Sports Department’s first major sports activity of the year 2026.

Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, SBP Vice Chairman Malik Sulaiman, Director General Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, Director Admin Abid Shaukat and Sports Coordinator Anoosh Khokhar also participated in the 12-km cycle ride.

Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muhammad Ali, Director General Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry, Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, Director Admin Abid Shaukat and several other notable figures were also present on this occasion.

Apart from cycle ride, separate cycle races for men, women and children were also organized at Nishtar Park Sports Complex. The cycle ride started from Liberty Chowk Manal and culminated at Liberty Chowk after passing through CBD Kalma Chowk. The men, women and children races started from Nishtar Park Sports Complex E-Liberty and ended in front of main gate of Gaddafi Stadium.

After the completion of four races, the closing ceremony was held at the National Hockey Stadium where Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar distributed cash prizes among the top position holders.

While addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that Punjab is the first province in the country to organize such a large cycling event quite successfully. “Punjab is leading in the sports field among all provinces in accordance with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister. The results in the last National Games and Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games reflected that Punjab’s sports is going in the right direction”.

Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that Punjab Sports Department will organize several major sports events such as Khelta Punjab Pink Games, Lahore Marathon, kabaddi and hockey events in the coming months. “A record 10,000 sprinters will participate in the Lahore Marathon event while more than 3000 female athletes will feature in the upcoming Khelta Punjab Pink Games”.

Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that the scope of the cycling race will be expanded to other cities of the province as well. “Punjab Sports Department will continue to organize such major sports events in future to provide talented athletes plenty of opportunities to showcase their sports potential”.

Answering a question, Punjab Minister for Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that Punjab contingent will demonstrate an improved performance in the next edition of National Games which are scheduled to be organized in Lahore. “We are giving stipends to our medal winning athletes in National Games under Sports Endowment Fund.”

He also thanked Director General Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry and his team, medical team, police department and media for making the grand cycling event a success.

In women’s race, Fatima Tahir clinched first position, Noorul Huda remained runners up while Zainab Chohan finished third. In men’s race, Ali Hassan stole the show and grabbed top position followed by M Mughal and Ali Nasir who took second and third positions respectively. Azan Adeel, M Talha and Ayan Adeel got top three positions in the children’s race respectively.
