LAHORE: The Lahore Police, in coordination with the district administration have arrested 49 suspects and registered 26 cases at various police stations across the city during an ongoing crackdown against profiteering and hoarding in Ramazan.

The spokesperson for the Lahore Police said on Wednesday that the action was carried out under the Price Control Act to check artificial price hikes and ensure the availability of essential commodities at officially notified rates.
According to the spokesperson, 13 suspects were arrested from Cantt Division, 11 from Civil Lines, 11 from Iqbal Town, seven from Model Town, five from City Division and two from Sadar Division.
Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana said indiscriminate action is being taken, in close coordination with the district administration against profiteers and hoarders. He warned that those involved in artificially inflating the prices of essential food items during the holy month would be dealt with firmly and no leniency would be shown.
The CCPO further stated that the police continue to provide full support to the district administration to ensure the provision of quality essential commodities to citizens at affordable prices.
He reaffirmed that legal action against those involved in hoarding and profiteering would continue without interruption.
