MUMBAI, June 4, 2026 : Filmmaker Karan Johar has once again become a topic of discussion on social media after fans noticed that several Pakistani celebrities remain on his Instagram following list despite a recent large-scale cleanup of his account.
The director recently unfollowed a significant number of Bollywood personalities, describing the move as part of a personal “digital detox.” However, social media users quickly observed that he continues to follow four prominent Pakistani artists.
Among those still followed by Johar are Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar and Imran Abbas.
The discovery sparked widespread discussion online, with fans speculating about why these particular names remained on the filmmaker’s account while many Bollywood celebrities were removed.
Industry observers pointed out that three of the actors — Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar and Imran Abbas — have previously been associated with projects connected to Johar and his production banner, Dharma Productions. Their professional ties with the filmmaker have led some fans to believe that these connections may have influenced his decision.
Meanwhile, Mahira Khan has not worked directly with Karan Johar, but she gained widespread recognition in India through her Bollywood debut in the film Raees opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
Despite the growing curiosity surrounding the matter, Johar has not publicly commented on why he chose to retain these Pakistani celebrities among the limited number of accounts he continues to follow.
The filmmaker’s social media activity has nevertheless generated considerable interest, with fans closely examining changes to his Instagram profile and debating the significance of his selective following list.
While the reason behind the decision remains unclear, the unexpected presence of the four Pakistani stars has added another layer of intrigue to Johar’s recent social media reset and kept the conversation alive across entertainment circles.
