DEHLI (Web Desk) – As speculation grows around the release of Jana Nayagan, ticketing platforms have now added a fresh release date for the much-delayed film. The movie, which marks the final acting project of Joseph Vijay before his full-time political journey, is currently listed for a June 19 release on platforms such as District and BookMyShow. However, the makers have still not made any official announcement regarding the date.
Directed by H. Vinoth and backed by KVN Productions, the film has remained stalled for nearly five months due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Initially planned for a theatrical release on January 9, the film reportedly faced hurdles after being referred to a revising committee despite the producers agreeing to suggested cuts by the examining panel.
Producer Venkat K Narayana recently addressed the delay while speaking to reporters outside a temple visit. Avoiding detailed comments, he stated that the team is still awaiting the censor certificate and assured fans that the film would release “at the earliest” once approvals are cleared. He also promised that the official release date would be announced well in advance and that the film would have a grand worldwide release.
The prolonged delay has significantly impacted the film’s release strategy, overseas distribution, and promotional plans. Industry reports claim the censor process became more complicated after complaints were raised against certain scenes in the film, leading to additional scrutiny. Amid the controversy, Vijay alleged that political forces were intentionally obstructing the film’s release during the sensitive election period in Tamil Nadu. He also accused rivals of spreading stories about his personal life to damage his image ahead of his political transition.
Further worsening the situation, pirated HD versions and several leaked scenes from the film surfaced online in April, shocking the Tamil film industry. Authorities have reportedly arrested nine individuals in connection with the leak investigation so far.
Apart from Vijay, Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in key roles. With fans eagerly awaiting updates, all eyes are now on whether the long-awaited censor clearance will finally pave the way for the film’s theatrical release in June.
