LAHORE: National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Falak Javed, sister of Sanam Javed, on charges of uploading a doctored video of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari and spreading anti-state content on social media.

Officials said Falak was wanted in two separate cases and had earlier been declared an absconder for failing to cooperate with investigators. She was detained from Lahore’s Ichhra area and shifted to the Women Police Station. Authorities confirmed she would be produced before court on Thursday.
The case traces back to July 2024, when Minister Bukhari complained that a manipulated video of her had been circulated on X, damaging her reputation. She sought legal action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), also requesting that Falak’s name be added to the Exit Control List.
Following the petition, the FIA formed a five-member team, froze Falak’s bank accounts and issued warrants. However, she remained at large, even appearing at PTI rallies, until her arrest this week.
Falak’s lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed the detention and said his team would oppose any request for physical remand, adding that the case was being reviewed from all legal aspects.
Minister Bukhari maintains that doctored content was deliberately used to defame her, arguing that the arrest is a necessary step toward accountability in online smear campaigns.
