Reports claim Diljit Dosanjh holds US citizenship since 2022, sparking online debate. He has not confirmed it and continues focusing on music and films.

DEHLI (Web Desk)-Punjabi singer and global entertainer Diljit Dosanjh is currently at the centre of online discussion after reports surfaced regarding his citizenship status. According to recent claims circulating in media reports, the artist is said to have acquired United States citizenship in 2022, which would mean he no longer holds Indian citizenship. However, Diljit has not issued any official statement confirming or denying these reports so far.

The discussion began gaining momentum after speculation linked to his continued international travel and recent visits to India. Reports suggest that since allegedly becoming a US citizen, Diljit has been travelling to India on an e-visa using an American passport. It is also being claimed that his earlier Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018, while even older documentation may have been issued from Zambia, though none of these details have been independently verified.

Another claim in the reports is that during the process of obtaining US citizenship, Diljit reportedly mentioned a luxury residence in California as part of his address details. Despite these circulating claims, there has been no confirmation from the singer or his representatives, leaving the matter largely based on speculation.

What has intensified public interest is Diljit Dosanjh’s strong cultural identity and deep association with Punjab. Over the years, he has consistently represented Punjabi heritage on global platforms through his music, performances, and public appearances. His identity as a proud Punjabi artist has been a central part of his image, with popular phrases and performances celebrating his roots.

Even after the citizenship-related reports emerged, Diljit continues to remain active in Indian cinema and the global music scene. He was recently seen in the film Border 2, where he portrayed the role of war hero Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon. On the international stage, he has performed at major global events including Coachella and appeared on American television shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, further strengthening his global presence.

The conversation around his nationality also gained attention after a group based in Punjab reportedly encouraged him to consider entering politics and becoming a representative voice for the state. However, Diljit quickly responded to such suggestions, firmly distancing himself from political ambitions. In a post shared on X, he clarified that politics is not his field and expressed satisfaction with his current career in entertainment.

Legally, Indian rules do not permit foreign citizens to hold constitutional political positions in the country unless they fulfill specific citizenship requirements. As of now, the discussion around Diljit Dosanjh remains based on reports and public speculation, with no official confirmation from the artist himself.
