Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has voiced a strong call for change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), urging a shift within the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to address the province’s challenges.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, he highlighted the deteriorating security situation across Pakistan, noting that terrorism has become rampant in Balochistan, law and order remain unstable in KP, and Sindh is grappling with widespread theft. He stressed the urgent need to address the root causes of terrorism, calling it a critical issue requiring serious reflection.
Fazl asserted that during JUI-F’s tenure in KP, the province enjoyed complete peace and stability. He emphasized that any decision regarding political change in KP would be made after thorough consultation within his party.
Criticizing the PTI-led KP government, he labeled its majority as “artificial” and warned that the province cannot withstand further political instability.
The JUI-F chief also condemned the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into KP, describing it as an ill-considered decision made without proper consultation. He called for the reversal of this constitutional amendment, arguing that it serves the national interest, and urged all political parties to recognize the merger as a mistake.
Addressing political dynamics, Fazl said the differences among parties are natural but should not escalate into personal animosities. He expressed openness to dialogue with PTI, provided the party adopts a more constructive approach, and revealed that young PTI workers frequently engage with him to discuss various issues. However, he refrained from commenting on potential Senate seat adjustments.
The JUI-F chief also proposed resolving any dispute with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) through dialogue and advocated for an All-Parties Conference (APC) to tackle the pressing issue of law and order.
