LAHORE: Despite government measures, the smog air quality index remained above the dangerous level across Punjab, while the Punjab government has imposed more restrictions to combat smog.
According to WHO standards, a quality index of more than 150 is dangerous for human health, while Lahore’s index has been more than 200 in the past week.
According to Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, it has been decided to cancel the route permits of vehicles with bad engines and high smoke emissions, while trucks, buses and heavy vehicles will be banned from entering Lahore on Fridays and Sundays.
Under the anti-smog campaign, 6 kilns have been demolished in Lodhran, Okara, Vehari and Sargodha, while 3 industrial units, a steel rolling mill, a textile unit and a rice mill have been sealed. In addition, more than 1,000 vehicles with bad engines and high smoke emissions were checked, out of which 144 vehicles were stopped.
Today’s actions will form the basis for eliminating smog in 8 to 10 years. The fight against air pollution is a fight to protect the lives of citizens.
