ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a nationwide alert after laboratory testing identified five batches of counterfeit medicines in Karachi, warning that their use could pose serious health risks.
According to the authority, the affected products include Mucaine syrup, Augmentin tablets, Velosef capsules, Nezomist nasal spray and No-Spa Forte 80mg. The medicines are commonly used to treat conditions ranging from stomach acidity and bacterial infections to allergies and muscle spasms.
DRAP said laboratory analysis failed to verify the identity of the active ingredients in samples from all five batches, raising concerns about their safety, quality and effectiveness.
The authority has directed provincial drug control departments and enforcement teams to immediately seize the identified products and prevent their further distribution.
Consumers, pharmacists and healthcare professionals have been urged to remain vigilant, check medicine packaging and batch details, and report suspected counterfeit products to the relevant authorities.
