KARACHI: A sessions court in Karachi acquitted Anmol, also known as Pinky, in two narcotics cases on Friday, citing insufficient evidence against her.
The cases were registered with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in 2018 and at the Gizri police station in 2021.
Anmol had been declared a proclaimed offender in both cases before seeking acquittal through separate applications under Section 265-K of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which allows courts to acquit an accused at any stage of proceedings in appropriate circumstances.
She appeared before the South additional sessions judge through a video link as the court heard her applications. After reviewing the cases, the judge ordered her acquittal in both matters.
The court also directed that she be released from jail if she was not wanted in any other case.
Her brother, Nasir, had previously been acquitted in the 2018 case.
In August, a sessions court had also acquitted Anmol in three other narcotics cases registered at the Gizri police station.
Her arrest came to public attention in May when she appeared before a Karachi court in connection with two cases registered at the Garden police station involving alleged possession of drugs and an unlicensed weapon.
The matter attracted widespread attention after a video showing her being escorted to court without handcuffs circulated on social media.
