LAHORE: Police have arrested a man accused of brutally killing a donkey with an axe in Lahore’s Barki area, in a case that has once again drawn attention to cruelty against animals.

According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations Lahore, the suspect was identified as Ali. He is accused of repeatedly striking the donkey on its hind legs and back with an axe, causing injuries that resulted in the animal’s death.

Police said Barki police acted after receiving an application from a citizen and immediately registered a case before launching an investigation.

The spokesperson said a case was registered under Section 429 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which covers killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering certain animals useless.
