LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has issued new guidelines making digital receipts mandatory for restaurants, hotels, coffee shops and food chains across Punjab to ensure transparency in sales tax collection and protect consumers’ tax payments.
Under the new directives, businesses will no longer be allowed to issue unpaid bills, pre-bills, temporary bills or kitchen order slips as substitutes for proper receipts. Restaurants and other food service providers have been directed to prominently display the guidelines at their premises for public awareness.
The PRA spokesperson advised customers to obtain digital receipts after making payments and verify important details, including the business name, address and Punjab Taxpayer Registration Number (PNTN), mentioned on the receipt.
According to PRA guidelines, digital receipts must clearly show order details, applicable tax rate, amount before tax, total payable amount, PRA invoice number and QR code. Customers can scan the QR code to verify transaction details and ensure that the collected tax is properly recorded.
The authority urged citizens to report businesses that refuse to provide digital receipts or deny digital and card payment facilities. Complaints can be submitted through PRA’s official social media platforms, the PRA Sahulat application or Punjab Revenue Authority introduces mandatory digital receipts for restaurants, hotels and coffee shops, banning unpaid bills and temporary receipts to ensure tax transparency.WhatsApp complaint service.
The PRA said the digital receipt system would improve transparency in tax collection, reduce tax evasion and ensure that taxes paid by citizens contribute towards Punjab’s development and public welfare.
