KARACHI (Web desk) – Pakistan has received its first roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipment carrying more than 2,000 electric vehicles at Karachi Port, marking a major step in modernising maritime trade and logistics.
The vessel MV Grande Shanghai delivered the country’s first Ro-Ro EV consignment, allowing vehicles to be driven directly off the ship without container handling.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry called the arrival a milestone, saying Ro-Ro operations would improve port efficiency, speed up vehicle clearance, reduce logistics costs, and ease congestion.
The shipment also highlights rising demand for electric vehicles in Pakistan and supports the country’s shift towards cleaner transportation. Authorities have not yet announced details about the manufacturers, importers, or distribution schedule.
