Punjab Assembly debated pre-budget issues, opposition concerns and legislation as treasury highlighted revenue dependence on federation and members passed multiple governance and welfare bills.

LAHORE: In the Punjab Assembly, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, while delivering a pre-budget speech, said that eighty percent of the province’s revenue comes from the federation, a large part of the tax targets have been achieved, and a new system is being introduced to prevent tax evasion. Government member Amjad Ali Javed demanded that elected public representatives be included in the board of the urban unit under development and planning, while opposition members discussed the health of the founder PTI, permission for meetings and the February 8 protest. According to details, the Punjab Assembly session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Chanar.
In the session, a detailed discussion was held on legislation, opposition protest points and the budget. Opposition member Waqas Mann raised the issue of the founder PTI not being allowed to meet lawyers in the house, while government member Amjad Ali Javed said that elected public representatives should be included in the board of the urban unit under planning because elected representatives understand public issues better. During the session, a phased process of approving draft laws was started in the Punjab Assembly.
Several bills including Citizens Welfare Punjab Bill 2025, Clean Punjab Authority Bill 2025, Empowerment of Disabled Persons, Narcotics Control, Criminal Prosecution Service, Criminal Procedure Code, Efficiency and Accountability, Provincial Motor Vehicles, Aquaculture Authority and The Punjab Labor Court were passed by majority vote.
The session has prorogued after the agenda completed.
