LAHORE: – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has called a meeting on May 27 to issue confirmation letters to IT Program Officers and other staff whose regularization was approved earlier this month.

Sources reveal that the delay in issuing the letters was linked to the addition of another agenda item – the proposed extension of IT Director Salman Zafar’s contract, which is set to expire on May 31, 2025.
According to officials, a confirmation decision for three IT officers and other employees was already approved on May 9. However, inclusion of Salman Zafar’s contract extension in the agenda reportedly led to the meeting being postponed.
The appointment of Salman Zafar has been under review since early February 2025, when PRA Chairman Nauman Yousaf formed a committee led by Director Ayesha Ranjha to scrutinize his hiring.
A prior committee formed in January under Commissioner Gujranwala had to be reconstituted after the head recused himself from the inquiry.
Sources say questions were raised regarding the eligibility criteria, as the position of Director IT requires a degree in IT or Computer Science, while Zafar holds a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Zafar, appointed in 2016, is also drawing attention for holding the highest salary in the organization—reported to be Rs500,000 per month, excluding benefits. He was recently given the additional charge of Director Admin.
The PRA administration maintains that confirmation letters for IT officers approved on May 9 will be issued soon, while the matter concerning the Director IT’s appointment remains under review.
