LAHORE– In a spirited and inspiring session, members of the Child Protection Forum (CPF) at Government Girls High School, Ferozepur Road, engaged in an interactive dialogue with Ms Sonia Ashar Parliamentary Secretary, Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department. Warmly welcomed by the students, Ms. Ashar attentively listened as children confidently highlighted a wide array of issues impacting their lives and communities. Among the major concerns raised were the lack of playgrounds, frequent school closures due to heatwaves, the need to raise the legal age of marriage for girls, and a call for greater government support for families living in poverty, ensuring children stay in school rather than being pushed into early labor. The students also proposed practical recommendations, demonstrating a remarkable awareness of their rights and civic responsibilities. Their ability to articulate thoughtful solutions left a lasting impression on all participants.

Sonia Asher praised the courage and clarity displayed by the children, stating. The awareness and confidence these young advocates have shown is truly remarkable. Their voices are powerful and must be integrated into the policymaking process. I deeply appreciate their commitment to building a better society. I assure you, your concerns will be taken to the relevant departments and echoed in the Assembly. She also commended the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Ms. Maryam Nawaz, for her progressive stance on child rights, under the visionary leadership of CM Maryam Nawaz, Punjab is witnessing tangible progress in child protection, girls’ education, and poverty alleviation programs. The launch of initiatives such as climate-resilient school infrastructure and the expansion of child welfare services shows a clear commitment to prioritizing children’s well-being. These efforts must be amplified and supported by all stakeholders.

Rashida Qureshi, Program Manager at Search for Justice, expressed immense pride in the students’ participation.

The dialogue concluded on a heartfelt note, with Azra Ameer, Principal of Govt. Girls High School, Ferozepur Road, sharing her gratitude.
