NEW YORK (Web Desk) – OpenAI is accelerating efforts to secure approximately $30 billion in new funding ahead of rival Anthropic’s expected initial public offering in November, in a move that could value the ChatGPT maker at more than $1.4 trillion, according to people familiar with the discussions.
The rapid fundraising timetable reflects intensifying competition between the two leading artificial intelligence developers as they seek investor commitments amid volatile technology markets and growing scrutiny of AI valuations.
Existing OpenAI backers, including Japan’s SoftBank Group and Abu Dhabi-based MGX, are reportedly in discussions to participate in the financing round. The company is also engaging long-term investment funds and sovereign wealth funds to secure capital for its expanding operations.
OpenAI is highlighting its revenue growth following the launch of its latest AI models, telling investors that its annualized revenue has reached $50 billion and could climb to $70 billion by the end of the year, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The company is also seeking to strengthen its financial position as it continues making substantial investments in computing infrastructure and data centers. Additional funding could provide a buffer if market uncertainty delays its anticipated 2027 public listing.
Meanwhile, Anthropic is preparing for its expected market debut, with investors evaluating its revenue performance and potential valuation. The competition for capital has become more complicated as concerns about borrowing costs, AI infrastructure spending and technology-stock volatility weigh on investor sentiment.
Market uncertainty has already disrupted several planned listings, while investors have become increasingly cautious about the cost of financing the artificial intelligence boom.
OpenAI and SoftBank declined to comment on the fundraising discussions, while Anthropic and MGX did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The accelerating fundraising effort highlights the growing financial rivalry between OpenAI and Anthropic, as both companies seek to attract major investors and establish strong valuations ahead of potentially landmark public-market transactions.
