LAHORE: A change of investigation board, chaired by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigation Lahore Syed Zeeshan Raza, reviewed 10 criminal cases involving murder, attempted murder, theft, fraud, breach of trust and cheque dishonour.

The board meeting was attended by SSP Legal Ghulam Hussain Chauhan and other senior police officials, according to a statement issued by the Lahore Investigation Police.

Cases presented before the board included the murder case of citizen Shahzad Kamran, attempted murder case of Parvez, theft cases involving citizens Shan Ali and Saira Bibi, fraud case of Muhammad Idrees, breach of trust case of Nadeem Yaqoob, and cheque dishonour cases involving Usman Ali Zafar and Tariq Ali.

During the proceedings, investigating officers and parties involved in the cases presented their respective positions before the officials. After hearing both sides, the board issued orders regarding changes in investigations where required.

DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza reprimanded investigating officers in some cases over poor investigation standards and issued show-cause notices.

He said that compromise on merit during investigations would not be tolerated and directed officers to ensure transparent and impartial investigations.

“The purpose of the change of investigation board is to provide justice to citizens,” the DIG said, adding that complaints from citizens were being addressed on a priority basis.

He further stated that a zero-tolerance policy was being followed in cases involving women and children, while strict monitoring was being carried out to make the investigation process more effective and transparent.

DIG Raza directed investigating officers to maintain fairness and professionalism in their work so that justice could be delivered without discrimination.

The change of investigation mechanism allows complainants to seek a review when they have concerns regarding the fairness or quality of an ongoing police investigation. Such boards are aimed at improving public confidence in the criminal justice system.
