ISLAMABAD: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh has applauded the decision by goods transporters to call off their nationwide strike following constructive discussions with federal and provincial authorities.

Speaking to media, the SVP described the development as “a major relief for the national economy and a testament to the power of dialogue and cooperation.”
The strike, which began on December 8, had severely disrupted supply chains, affecting the timely delivery of raw materials, finished goods, export consignments, and essential items including medicines. Ports, manufacturing facilities, and businesses nationwide faced operational challenges and financial losses during the disruption.
The LCCI SVP emphasised that while the transport sector’s concerns regarding regulatory changes, punitive traffic ordinances, and operational challenges are legitimate, maintaining uninterrupted logistics is critical to national trade, industry, and commerce.
He further urged the Government and transport associations to make proactive use of the joint committee mechanism established during negotiations to:
• Rationalise traffic enforcement policies, balancing road safety with operational realities of transporters.
• Ensure fair and transparent challan and penalty systems that do not burden small and medium carriers.
• Develop long-term support frameworks for the sector, including industry recognition, incentives, and structured compliance pathways.
“The end of this strike is a positive step, but swift implementation of these measures is essential to prevent future disruptions and strengthen Pakistan’s economic resilience,” he added, calling on transporters to resume full operations immediately, especially ahead of the peak production and export season.
