According to the police spokesperson, more than 2,700 arrests have been made so far this year under the Tenancy Act, with cases registered across various police stations in the city.
Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that strict enforcement of the Tenancy Act was being ensured. He warned that legal action will be taken against those who rent out houses, shops or properties to individuals residing illegally.
The police teams were verifying tenants’ data in the field and those failing to register tenant’s information were being brought under the net of the law, he added.
“Failure to register tenants will invite legal action,” Kamyana emphasized, adding that tenants’ registration was important in identifying suspected elements. He urged citizens to register their tenants as implementation of the law was a shared responsibility.
