(News Desk) – The Crime Control Department (CCD) has officially taken control of the high-profile Ameer Balaj murder case, following the dissolution of the Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) that had been leading the inquiry.
According to senior officials, the CCD will launch a wide-ranging investigation to probe every aspect of the case and ensure complete transparency, fairness, and accountability. The JIT has handed over all case records, evidence, and progress reports to the CCD, marking the beginning of a new phase in the probe.
The murder case, registered at Chuhng Police Station, had earlier identified notorious gangsters Teefi Butt and Gogi Butt as the principal suspects. Investigations further revealed that Muzaffar Shah, another key figure in the case, was killed on the spot after sustaining gunshot wounds during the confrontation.
The investigation took a new twist recently when Teefi Butt, whose real name was Khawaja Tareef, was allegedly gunned down by his own accomplices in an alleged police encounter near Rahim Yar Khan. According to police sources, Teefi had been extradited from Dubai via Interpol and was being brought to Lahore for interrogation when his associates ambushed the police convoy on Ahmedpur Lama Road, killing him instantly before escaping.
Meanwhile, Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt, another prime suspect, remains absconding despite multiple raids. On October 13, a Lahore sessions court dismissed his interim bail plea over his continued non-appearance and failure to comply with court directions.
Officials confirmed that the CCD will now re-examine all existing evidence, suspect links, and potential facilitators to bring the culprits to justice. The move is being seen as an effort to restore public confidence in the investigation of one of Lahore’s most notorious gangland killings in recent years.
