WASHINGTON (News Desk) Former US President Donald Trump announced that Coca-Cola has agreed to switch its main American soda recipe to real cane sugar — a move he says he personally suggested to the beverage giant. However, Coca-Cola has neither confirmed nor denied the claim.
Trump shared the update on his social media platform, stating, “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. This will be a very good move — you’ll see. It’s just better!”

While Coca-Cola thanked Trump for his “enthusiasm” and teased upcoming product announcements, it did not provide clarity on whether any formula change is truly in the pipeline. The company has imported its glass-bottled, cane sugar version of Coke from Mexico since 2005, catering to US customers nostalgic for the original taste.
If the change were to happen, it could stir trouble in the agricultural sector. Corn farmers, whose crops are used to produce high-fructose corn syrup — a common sweetener in US beverages — might take a hit. The Corn Refiners Association warned that replacing corn syrup with cane sugar could lead to job losses, lower farm earnings, and increased sugar imports.
Interestingly, Trump’s preferred drink — Diet Coke — remains unaffected, as it contains aspartame instead of sugar. Despite calling it “garbage” in a 2012 tweet, he’s known for his long-time habit of drinking multiple cans a day, even installing a Diet Coke button in the Oval Office during his presidency.
