The mother-in-law said the family had traveled from Jhang to Lahore to pay respects at the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh and was passing by the market area when the accident occurred.
She alleged that the manhole was left uncovered. While no departments including Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA), Wasa or other relevant organizations, were ready to take responsibility.
Rescue teams remained on site, but officials had not yet confirmed the condition or whereabouts of the woman and child. The incident has sparked anger among locals, who criticized the lack of maintenance and accountability for public safety infrastructure.
This is a developing story.
