Lahore, Jan 25, 2026: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Lahore President Faisal Mir has criticized the Punjab government for delaying local government elections for over a decade and holding them under a non-party system, calling it a move influenced by the bureaucracy.

Speaking at a press conference at the PPP Johar Town office alongside Dr. Ahsan, Majeed Ghauri, Abdullah Ghauri, and Allah Ditta Wattoo, Mir said Khawaja Asif’s recent comments on the 18th Amendment and local government powers were indirectly aimed at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
“Maryam Nawaz has become a football of the bureaucracy in Punjab,” Mir said, adding that local areas like Maryam Colony still lack basic facilities despite ongoing delays in elections.
Mir assured that the PPP will challenge the non-party elections in court and called for party-based polls that allow citizens to vote on party manifestos, a system he described as more democratic.
The PPP leadership also announced the Kashmir Bachao Rally on February 1 in Lahore, starting from Nasir Bagh to Charing Cross, involving party workers and youth organizations to show solidarity with Kashmiris.
