LAHORE, Pakistan — Development work under the “Maryam Nawaz Ka Sona Punjab” initiative has officially begun in 51 cities across Punjab. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting, directing that the first phase of the programme be completed by June 2026, with priority given to sewerage systems and essential urban infrastructure.

To ensure smooth execution, provincial and district-level control rooms will monitor progress in real time and address public concerns promptly.
Key projects include the construction of 5,887 km of sewerage lines, 181 drainage lines, installation of over 33,000 manhole covers, and production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes for sewerage systems. Deputy Commissioners from major cities briefed the chief minister on project plans and progress, highlighting city-specific initiatives.
Notable highlights:
• Multan: 232 km sewerage lines, 81 pumps, 51 generators, 64 km urban roads; expansion and beautification of major roads.
• Gujranwala: 131 km sewerage lines, 2 km drainage lines, wastewater treatment plant, 16 machinery units.
• Dera Ghazi Khan: Rs12 billion sewerage and drainage systems, Manika Canal conversion, 140 km sewerage lines.
• Bhakkar: 42-inch sewerage line, 100 new manholes, solar disposal stations, parks, walkways, public washrooms.
• Vehari: Rs6.7 billion development projects.
• Sheikhupura: 95 km sewerage lines, accelerated beautification projects.
The chief minister emphasized cleanliness, civic management, and restoration of essential services, including the District Headquarters Hospital in Kasur and sewerage systems in Pattoki. She vowed that every project under the Punjab Development Plan would be completed transparently, on time, and benefit all neighborhoods.
