LAHORE: Lahore Police have intensified a citywide crackdown against kite flying ahead of the Basant festival to curb such illegal activities.

According to a statement issued by the police spokesperson on Wednesday, 565 individuals involved in kite flying were arrested over the past 20 days and 542 cases were registered at various police stations across the city. The spokesperson added that during the operations, police recovered 9,070 kites and 404 spools from the suspects.
CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that kite flying remains strictly banned under government orders, except during the designated period from February 6 to 8. He directed police officers to ensure strict enforcement of government-issued SOPs related to Basant and ordered immediate, indiscriminate action in case of any violation.
He further warned that those involved in unauthorized kite flying or the sale of kites would face heavy fines and imprisonment, adding that the use of metallic string would prompt immediate stern action.
