ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – At least six people, including the bride and groom, were killed and 11 others injured in a powerful explosion at a house in Islamabad’s Sector G-7/2 where a wedding ceremony was underway on Sunday, officials said.

According to officials, the blast occurred at the wedding venue while guests were present, causing extensive damage to the building and nearby houses. The deceased included the newlywed couple, turning celebrations into mourning for the families involved.
Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) spokesperson Dr Aneeza Jalil said six bodies and 11 injured persons were brought to the hospital. She added that an emergency was imposed at PIMS on the directives of Executive Director Dr Rana Imran Sikander to ensure immediate medical care for the victims.
“One of the injured has been shifted to the burns centre after sustaining around 20 per cent burn injuries,” she said, adding that the condition of the injured was being closely monitored.
Islamabad Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sahibzada Yusuf visited the site on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that at least four houses were damaged due to the explosion.
“All those trapped under the rubble were rescued using advanced technology,” he said, adding that rescue teams were continuing further checks with specialised equipment to rule out any remaining risks.
An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion. However, initial findings suggest that the incident may have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion, the official said.
Meanwhile, Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident. In a statement issued by the Senate Secretariat, he offered condolences to the bereaved families and termed the incident heart-wrenching.
“This tragic event has turned a moment of joy into sorrow,” the statement quoted him as saying. He also expressed concern over the rising incidents of gas cylinder explosions and stressed the need for strict enforcement of safety regulations.
Gilani urged the relevant departments to ensure compliance with safety laws and called for public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the safe use of gas cylinders to prevent such tragedies in the future.
