LAHORE: Punjab government has extended winter vacations for all schools and colleges by one week, citing harsh weather conditions and student health concerns. Educational institutions across the province will now reopen on January 19 instead of January 12.

The decision was announced by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who said the move was guided by public feedback gathered through a social media survey. According to the results, 87 percent of respondents supported reopening on January 19, while only 13 percent favored resuming classes on January 12.
Authorities noted that prolonged cold spells and dense fog have disrupted daily life in several areas of Punjab, raising safety concerns for students commuting to educational institutions. The extension aims to ensure student well-being amid the prevailing weather conditions.
