LAHORE – Former Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Zahid Iqbal Chaudhry, has said that the assassination attempt on prominent trader leader Sheikh Fawad has triggered widespread anger, grief and anxiety among the business community across the country.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday, Zahid Chaudhry strongly condemned the attack, noting that it also resulted in the loss of an innocent life. He demanded that an independent and transparent investigation be conducted to identify and punish all those involved.
Expressing condolences over the death of the victim, he prayed for the departed soul and assured Sheikh Fawad of the full support and solidarity of the business community during this difficult time.
Zahid Chaudhry said that Sheikh Fawad is a well-known trader leader and a member of the FPCCI Executive Committee, and that the attack has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of business leaders in Punjab. He urged the Inspector General of Punjab Police to ensure an impartial investigation into the case and to take decisive action against armed criminal groups operating in the province.
It may be recalled that armed assailants opened fire on Sheikh Fawad in Jhang a few days ago. As a result of the attack, one employee of his petrol pump was killed, while three others sustained serious injuries. Sheikh Fawad also served as president of Jhang Chamber of Commerce.
