LAHORE: Lahore Police arrested 11,573 drug peddlers and registered 11,294 cases during the past year as part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics, a police spokesperson said on Monday.

According to the spokesperson, police recovered 5,355 kilograms of hashish, 1,158 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), 577 kilograms of heroin, 315 kilograms of opium and 63,973 liters of liquor from the arrested suspects during various operations.
Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said the police were actively working to rid the provincial capital of drugs. He described drug dealers as a scourge on society and said they deserved no leniency.
The CCPO said protecting the younger generation from the menace of drug abuse was a collective responsibility and vowed that elements involved in the drug supply chain would be taken to their logical end in accordance with the law. He also urged parents, teachers and civil society to play an effective role in keeping youth away from narcotics.
